How would you differentiate sincere striving for God-consciousness from brainwashing in cults?

Does it matter that these events are supervised in a religious group setting?

    Is there really a difference?
You should really do some research if you think that, Allen. Quit spouting ignorance.

    Both are equally delusional.

Only in the degree of gullibility. Otherwise, they are the same.

    If it’s scriptural…. it’s right.

religion = cult – they do the opposite of what God and Jesus teach.

Striving and brainwashing has one intended effect only..to devote your self to an imaginary being, so the church has a nice big herd of sheeple to be supported by

The sincere striving for God-consciousness people are self conscious, can think about their doing but brainwash people are not self conscious can not think about their doing. In other word, First one is in self control and second one is in others control.

You are brainwashed with nonsense if your religion claims to be the only truth.

There is no need in “brainwashing”. God has given us a consciousness already. The Bible says in Romans 1: 18-25. We can know there is a God and that He is very powerful, but we have the innate ability within us to reject any of that knowledge and believe a lie instead, and if we do that long enough God, gives us over to our own passions and desires and sin and we can live without acknowledging HIM at all, or we can agree with GOD and embrace HIM as LORD and Savior by and through HIS gift to us through HIS Son Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and rose to give us a new relationship with GOD and eternal life with HIM.
I am a follower of Jesus Christ not through some “religious group setting” but through the realization that I nor anyone else was capable of knowing all there is to know, and by faith accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I am not a “religious” person, I am a person who has a relationship with the Person of Christ.
